It’s been a busy few months for In The Headlights. In October, we took I Have No Idea to the Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta Showcase Conference in Fort Saskatchewan, AB. It was a blast and an honour to present a snippet of I Have No Idea to delegates from presenting organizations across the province, and to meet and converse with those delegates and with other artists.
In The Headlights was also selected to present at the Manitoba Artists Showcase, but my wife and I just had to go and have a baby on the weekend that was supposed to happen. (And now he’s almost five months old! Where does the time go?)
October, November, and December were full of grant applications, seeking sponsors, following up with connections made at the ATAA Showcase, and getting the logistics in place as much as anyone with ADHD can do for the new year, while having a baby at home, forgetting what a sleep schedule is, and attempting breathe.
So far, none of the grants applications have turned out in my favour, and a sponsor that I was in deep talks with pulled out at the last minute. But in January, we started another round of rehearsals for I Have No Idea, this time bringing a new cast member into the fold. It was a calm and enriching rehearsal room. Partly because of how we do the work we do (which is an ongoing learning process for me), and partly because my little one and a service dog were in the room with us each day.
February 7th saw us performing I Have No Idea in its entirety outside of Saskatchewan for the first time. We were invited to perform at the Churchill Winterruption Festival in Churchill, MB. It was a whirlwind trip, but a good performance and solid festival. And Churchill is a damn cool place. Literally and metaphorically.
This coming week we have two performances in Saskatoon. Pay-what-you-can, Feb. 18th and 19th, at PAVED Arts. The ticket link is in the What’s On section.
We’re booking shows for the remainder of the theatre season and into 2026/27. Details of performances that are currently in the works will be posted as soon as they’re confirmed!
Our curriculum guide for high school audiences is almost complete! I Have No Idea can be brought to almost any high school gym or auditorium. High school audiences have bused in to previous performances and have enjoyed the show tremendously. We will be sending out information to schools and districts across Western Canada. If you are an educator, we hope to get to your school!
Lastly; all of this costs money. I’ll be posting in the coming days about what it costs to put on a production, and why I make the choice to pay the artists I engage at higher than minimum rates. (Spoiler: it’s because groceries have doubled in price in the last six years, and the actor’s union’s rates haven’t.) If you are in a position to make a donation, you can do so on the Support Us tab. It’s very much appreciated.
See you at PAVED Arts on Feb. 18/19.
